Washing machine disinfection with biostream® ZERO

Open washing machine with fresh laundry: disinfecting the washing machine with biostream® ZERO

FRESH LAUNDRY AT LAST!

Boil washes gave way to gentle 30-degree cycles long ago. The lower temperatures save energy and resources, but in water that is now only lukewarm, many germs survive.

Germs and skin particles gradually accumulate in the washing machine. Particularly concerning: the microorganisms can multiply in the residual water of the empty machine and be transferred to the laundry the next time it is used. After a wash cycle at 60 degrees, on the other hand, ten to a hundred times fewer germs remain in the laundry than at 40 degrees Celsius, found Paul Terpstra of Wageningen University in the Netherlands.

More than 10 years ago, the German Federal Institute for Risk Assessment (BfR) already called for textiles contaminated with microbes, such as cleaning cloths and dishcloths, but also underwear, to always be washed at 60 degrees Celsius with a bleach-containing detergent. However, only a few consumers follow this advice. And a close look at the textile labels makes it clear why: often only maximum temperatures of 30°C are recommended.

So here is our tip:

Disinfect your washing machine quite simply with biostream® ZERO

Take a bucket and pour in about 1 litre of water. Then add 20 millilitres of biostream® ZERO and fill the bucket with a further litre of water. Pour the contents of the bucket directly into the detergent compartment. Then start a wash programme at a maximum of 30 degrees and let it run to completion.

Disinfected this way, your washing machine will deliver fresh laundry once again.
