Preventing germs at funfairs and festivals: hose disinfection helps!

Hose disinfection at a funfair to prevent germs

The festivities are starting again! Right on time for summer, funfairs, fairgrounds and the popular shooting festivals get underway.

Alongside exciting conversations, there is of course also plenty of eating and drinking. Unfortunately, germs and bacteria are often found here too.

"In general, you should take a good look at the food stalls before buying," says Melanie Bauermann, food expert at the TÜV Rheinland FoodCert Alliance.
"Feel free to watch over the vendors' shoulders for a moment to judge whether the work is really done hygienically. Use all your senses and do not let yourself be guided by hunger alone." Simply take the time to observe how a stall is run: Are the work surfaces clean? Is stock just left lying around? Are hands washed regularly?

Bacteria in the dispensing system
"Germs are often found in dispensing systems because they have not been rinsed thoroughly enough. Contrary to popular belief, the alcohol content of beer is not enough to kill germs. That would only happen at higher alcohol contents," says Melanie Bauermann of TÜV Rheinland. "Inadequate cleaning of dispensing systems can, for example, lead to contamination with E. coli germs."

Hose disinfection is an important issue
How do germs and bacteria get into dispensing systems? Contamination is often introduced through dirty drinking water hoses. Long storage times and incorrect storage of these KTW hoses can lead to the formation of biofilms, which provide a breeding ground for bacteria. These biofilms, and the germs present in the water, can be tackled simply and effectively with biostream® ZERO. The biostream® active substance chlorine dioxide fights germs and bacteria in the hose and so counteracts microbial contamination of the dispensing system.

biostream® GmbH counts a number of service providers among its customers who already successfully use biostream® ZERO for hose disinfection at drinks stalls. So if you visit a medieval market, you can rely on thoroughly modern standards of hygiene.

Health authorities require that drinking water hoses are only installed in hygienically flawless condition, so that no germs are transferred to visitors. Health authorities and trade supervisory offices are currently stepping up checks, so that you can enjoy your visit safely and in good health.
